5.2 Extent of cyclist hospital admissions caused by slipping on ice

 

 

The MET Office web site contains the following warning ‘Cycling accidents on ice can often result in physical injury, so learning to read the weather signs and identify potential danger spots on your journey is essential.

Hospital Episode Statistics  provide  a breakdown of the causes of the contributory causes of cycling admissions. However there is no breakdown of non-collision incidents causes. In order to establish the causes of this category the results of the survey referred to in 5.1 were applied to these figures. 

 

Slipping on ice is estimated as the second highest cause of cyclist hospital admissions as shown in the graph below.
